Is it harmful to clean tartar?

Of course it is not harmful. There is even a department based on this process. Tooth calculus is the causative factor of all gingival diseases. Ultimately, it must be removed from the mouth by conscious and competent hands. However, staying away from oral hygiene practices with the logic of "however my dentist cleans it" contributes to the accumulation of tartar after each procedure. The important thing is not to clean the tartar, but to keep the teeth clean. Because tartar cleaning is not a cosmetic job, it is a form of treatment.

Should I floss?

Of course yes. Dental floss is one of the most helpful oral hygiene tools. The areas between the teeth and the teeth that we cannot reach are the starting points of caries or dentitions related to the teeth. Especially in crooked teeth, the situation gains even more. This purpose is to use dental floss once a day in addition to brushing teeth. Note: Please contact your dentist about which floss is suitable for your size and how your floss is.

Benim için doğru diş hekimini seçerken nelere dikkat etmeliyim?

In fact, this issue has divided the physician community into two. In addition to physicians who do not believe in its benefits, there are colleagues who have proven that the studies yield results. We accept that teeth whitening will be successful if all the appropriate technique, appropriate equipment and appropriate notion guidance and appropriate case selection criteria are combined at the same time. Because if the definition of health is made as a state of complete physical, biological and spiritual well-being, the person who is not satisfied with the color of their teeth and considers it a problem is considered unhealthy. For the person who fits this definition, teeth whitening will be a form of treatment. However, to be admitted, the main problem of patients who come to our clinic with the expectation of teeth whitening is teeth that look dirty with coloring agents, and the treatment of this is calculus cleaning and polishing, which is a professional but very routine procedure. And experience shows that for many people this procedure is the most appropriate treatment. However, the method we call vital bleaching can be applied to people who want their teeth to look whiter. However, patient expectations should not exceed the limits of reality. Utopian expectations cannot be met and dissatisfaction occurs in teeth whitening. In addition to this, if we give an example; It is necessary to take the risk of minimal damage as much as the damage we see from tea or the radiation we receive while watching TV, and despite everything, teeth whitening can be done in the presence of suitable conditions. And getting successful results is not difficult at all.

Which filling should I choose?

When choosing the filling material, dentists should be able to withstand the chewing pressure of the posterior teeth; to be as unnoticeable as possible on the front teeth; They take into account that it does not damage the pulp of the tooth. The advantages of black amalgam fillings are tightness, resistance to chewing pressure, and longevity. The disadvantages are aesthetically unfavorable color, chemical hardening and, although rare, allergy to the mercury in its content. The advantages of white composite fillings are aesthetic success, inconspicuousness and light-curing (it takes a short time to harden, no waiting time such as 2 hours). Its disadvantages are that its sealing is not as successful as amalgam, its life is shorter and it is more expensive. Unless aesthetic concern is very important, the choice of filling should be left to the dentist.

What could be the reason why my gums bleed frequently?

The first and most important symptom of gum diseases is bleeding gums. It manifests itself even more with color, deformities and bad breath in the gums. Healthy gums are pink in color. It is firmly adhered to the tooth and bone, and has a shiny – grainy appearance similar to an orange peel. The main cause of gum disease is a sticky transparent layer that is firmly attached to the tooth called bacterial plaque. You can notice plaque by scraping your teeth with your fingernail. If the bacterial plaque is not removed, it hardens and deposits called tartar or tartar form. Toxins (harmful substances) produced by bacteria in plaque damage the gums. Toxins wash the supporting tissues around the gums, move away from the teeth, and more bacterial plaque accumulates in the formed periodontal pockets. As periodontal disease develops, the pockets become deeper. The bacterial plaque adheres to the exposed root surfaces of the teeth. The bony support of the teeth is lost and untreated teeth begin to wobble and eventually have to be extracted.

How can I detect gum diseases?
Gum diseases are considered as inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth. They usually do not cause pain. This too; It causes the person to realize the gum disease late. Therefore, it would be appropriate to call this disease an insidious disease. The healthy gingiva is rose-pink in color, firmly adhered to the tooth, and has a sharp end like a knife-edge, non-bleeding and non-swelling. With the deterioration of health, first the color becomes reddish, the gingiva becomes slightly swollen and gradually loses its ability to hold firmly on the tooth. The attachment areas on the tooth move away from the knife-edge form. Bad breath begins to occur, but most importantly, bleeding occurs when brushing and / or spitting or biting a hard food. What the patient should do then is to immediately contact a dentist or a gingival specialist. Otherwise, irreversible results may occur, which puts the patient and the physician in a difficult situation. It should not be forgotten that what keeps the tooth in the mouth is the supporting tissues surrounding it. Loss of supporting tissues will mean loss of tooth.
Causes of bad breath?

Bad breath is caused by a gas called volatile sulfur, which is the waste product of dead bacteria. The bad odor in the breath is mostly from the mouth. An infection in the mouth, an advanced gum disease or just bacteria that settle on food residues left in the mouth for more than a few hours cause odor. Other systemic problems that cause odor are: Tonsillitis, lung inflammation, sinusitis, diabetes (acetone odor), gastrointestinal diseases, kidney failure (fishy odor), liver and metabolism disorders. First of all, the cause of bad breath should be diagnosed and treated accordingly. All cavities are treated if what needs to be done for oral odors. Gum disease is treated. Pockets and calculus are eliminated. Impacted and semi-impacted wisdom teeth are extracted.

Is the implant procedure a painful procedure?

First of all, it should be known that there is no longer a painful treatment in dentistry. Nerve blockade of the application area is performed as necessary with the appropriate anesthesia to be performed before each intervention. The patient does not feel any pain during the operation if the appropriate anesthesia methods are applied. In this regard, it is essential that the physician has a command of the subject. It should be preferred that the physician is competent in the specific intervention performed. Apart from this, there is no special pain specific to the implant operation, and it is possible that there are simple discomforts after an ordinary tooth extraction. Ordinary pain that may occur after the placement of the implant can be easily relieved with painkillers. Although 98% of our patients feel that their past fears are unfounded after the operation, they report that they are as comfortable as if they had not undergone any operation.

Is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the teeth at the back of the mouth that are prone to decay due to their location and are often out of function. There is no rule that says 'will be taken absolutely', and they create problems at a rate of 70%. For example, it is an event that we do not want to be able to come out because it cannot find a place in the mouth, because in such a case it is highly likely that it will act as a focal infection source in the place where it is located. In addition, there may be difficulties in opening and closing the mouth and the application of force to make the adjacent teeth crooked. Therefore, physician control on this issue is essential.
