Abscess
Treatments

Tooth abscess, unlike many periodontal conditions, causes pain and suffering. Gum problems can progress chronically and give late symptoms. However, abscesses affecting the pulp part of the tooth, namely the nerve, will cause serious pain in the acute period. Therefore, urgent intervention is required.

It is recommended that people with symptoms apply to the dentist without waiting and start the necessary treatment process.

Precautions should be taken before a process leading to bone loss and tooth loss develops around the root of the teeth.

Tooth abscess, A tooth abscess is different from a gingival abscess. It is caused by a bacterial infection in the teeth or gums. It usually occurs when adequate attention is not paid to oral and dental hygiene. Apart from this, it can also be a symptom of disorders that occur in another system of the body. There are symptoms such as excessive red color of the gums and bleeding when brushing teeth.

What are
Symptoms?

Symptoms of tooth abscess can be listed as follows:

  • Since the abscess is related to the root of the tooth, the main symptoms are at the root tip.
  • When bitten and sometimes spontaneous pain may develop.
  • Swelling and pain that wakes you up at night can be seen.
  • A fistula mouth like a pimple can be seen at the root level of the tooth. This formation is where the inflammation flows.

If you have all or some of these symptoms, it is recommended that you consult a dentist immediately. Your dentist will inform you about the treatment process after detecting the problem. Let's take a look at how a tooth abscess passes, and how it is treated.

How Does a Tooth Abscess Pass?
How Is It Treated?

When you apply to the dentist, first of all, physical controls of the area you complain about are made. These checks cover the appearance of the gums. Then, the level of the abscess is clearly determined by taking an X-ray of the relevant area. In the last stage, it is checked whether the infection has reached the nerve inside the tooth. If the cause of the abscess is an infection to the nerve of the tooth, treatment is performed by removing the nerve of the tooth. This process is called root canal treatment.

The steps for the treatment of gum abscess are as follows:

  • After determining the cause of the abscess, treatment is done accordingly.
  • It is ensured that the gums are healthy. It is cleaned in detail.
  • Deep cleaning, called curettage, may be required for some areas.
  • Direct medication is not always preferred. If the inflammation focus is large, flow can be achieved under the effect of anesthesia.
  • Surgical methods can be used in cases where the inflammation needs to be drained but is not possible locally. With this method, the gums and tooth roots are cleaned so that the infection does not recur.
  • The most preferred treatment method for dental abscesses is root canal treatment. The abscess is usually tried to be completely dried in a single session.
